2003-02-04 - 11:30 pm Driving home from school this evening at about 5pm, I ran into police cars, barricades, media trucks, and lots yellow crime scene tape. There was a shooting at Northill Mall, just a jog away from my school, the same mall I used to work at from time to time when I was still with Naturalizer. A few blocks away there was more crime scene tape and police cars blocking off the entire street. Apparently one of the cars involved stopped there and was apprehended by police and sent to the hospital. This whole "drive-by shooting" thing is completely foreign to me. We've had a few in Calgary since I've been here but never enough to cause me to worry. I'm trying not to freak myself out because this is Calgary and not some overcrowded metropolis burdened with extreme poverty and crime. It just seems so strange to me to hear about such big-city-crimes happening in this country town because all I can picture in my head are cheesey eighteen year old kids with their slick hair and silver chains wanting to bust shit up. So much grief has been happening just in the last week. Columbia's explosion, those poor high school kids getting caught in another avalanche, and now this.
