I downloaded Quark Express 5.0 last night, along with Adobe Font Folio 9 so I can attempt to design my zine on the computer as I go rather than cutting and pasting (and consquently wasting too much paper in my frustrations). Austin stepped me through the basics of the program just like he does with a lot of things I don't understand on the computer. With his help I've figured out how to design a quarter - even 1/8th legal - size zine just but setting up rulers and guides. Sure, I'll have to use a paper dummy to figure everything out at first and keep me on track, but that's better than a bagful of wasted paper headed for recycling.

Honestly, I love having a graphic designer for a boyfriend. It makes my work so much easier because he jumps in whenever I'm bailing. Especially since I'm still this naive girl growing into the whole "I'm an Artist" thing. And I don't feel stupid asking him questions, no matter how dumb they may be, which is great.

linolium tree!Today is my day off and I already have a plan of things to do. I have to complete a large lino block for class tomorrow so I can spend my time printing and cutting even more lino. I have this wonderful idea for a project and I know that it's going to consume all of my free time. I'm going to make small books, all handbound on real nice paper, of my small lino prints. It's going to be a teeny little book (about quarter size letter, or smaller) with landscape images and body shots. I think it's going to be great. I don't know how many I'm going to make but as long as I get one done it will be pretty sweet.

I'm really getting into this whole printmaking deal and it's completely fucking with my original plans and love for fibre/textiles. I mean I love working with fabric but I enjoy printing on fabric so much more. In a few weeks I have to declare my major and I'm not sure which way to go. I mean, there are pros and cons to both Printmaking and Fibre majors. Maybe someday soon I'll sit down and make a huge list. But for right now, this biggest thing that's distinguishing the two is: Printmaking BFA = Possibility of a paying job in the field vs. Fibre BFA = Oh god, what am I going to do with that?!. I guess the great thing about going to ACAD is that I can take electives during my major in whatever area I want. I can go into printmaking but still take a weaving or papermaking elective. And I mean, it's not like I would be straying completely away from fibre altogether, I'd just be doing it on the sidelines to enhance my work.

Yea, my head is a jumble. And my stomach's grumbling. I better get my day started.
